Prof. Dr. Mitjan Kalin Receives the Highest Academic Honor in the Field of Tribology – the ASME Mayo D. Hersey Award

Prof. Dr. Mitjan Kalin has become the first European since 2004 to receive the prestigious ASME Mayo D. Hersey Award – the highest academic recognition in the field of tribology worldwide.
The Mayo D. Hersey Award is presented to individuals in recognition of outstanding and sustained contributions to the advancement of the science and engineering of tribology. These contributions may stem from significant original research in lubrication-related disciplines, excellence and creativity in engineering practice, or persistent efforts to promote understanding of lubrication theory and practice.
Prof. Dr. Kalin is also a recipient of the ASME Burt L. Newkirk Award for outstanding achievements in tribology before the age of 40, placing him among a select group – only ten individuals have ever received both of ASME’s highest tribology honors. In addition, he has been awarded the Zois Certificate of Recognition, the Zois Award, and the Golden Plaque of the University of Ljubljana. He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Slovenian Academy of Engineering, the International Academy of Engineering, and an honorary member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE).
