Objectives of the project are:

  • Combining the knowledge of many different institutes, dealing with measuring or simulating tolls which can or are used for wear and surface characterisation.
  • Set up a theoretical parameter and criteria model for surface and wear characterisation in nanometer scale.
  • Classifying state of the art measuring devices.
  • Developing further and new measuring devices for wear and surface characterisation in nanometer scale.
  • Comparison of measured data on nanometer scale of different measuring techniques.
  • Extension of the theoretical parameter model relating to life time prediction of tribosystems (wear characterisation) and relating to high quality criteria of work pieces (surfaces).
  • Providing tested and validated procedures and techniques that help industry to carry out better surface measurements.
  • Providing a basis for technical communication by standardising measurement procedures and instrument calibration and surface characterisation.
