The TINT laboratory received the prestigious Rector's Award for Innovation
date: 04.11.2024
The University of Ljubljana awarded nine Rector's awards for outstanding ideas, among which the innovative project of 3D printing of magnets stood out, which achieved an exceptional third place in the category of researchers and employees of the University of Ljubljana.
Assistant Urban Klanjšček from the Laboratory of Tribology and Surface Nanotechnology (TINT), in cooperation with the Jožef Stefan Institute, has proven that innovation in mechanical engineering is the key to the future of technology and industry. This achievement represents a significant new breakthrough in the field of magnet production and opens up new opportunities and markets for advances in areas such as electrical appliances and medical technology. With a completely new method of manufacturing magnets using 3D printing, they are the first to make it possible to print any geometry of magnet thickness at the same time as the polymer product. The end products are therefore smaller and lighter, more efficient and more strongly integrated with magnets. In addition, the products can be easily recycled, which is an important step towards more efficient and environmentally friendly production.
