dr. Rok Simič

Short biography

Rok Simič was born in 1985 in Ljubljana. After graduating from high school in 2004, he enrolled in the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana. In 2009 he graduated with the title Metal caving and polishing with nanosecond laser pulses. Development of laser textured surfaces for friction reduction in the thesis was the first contact with the tribology. That same year, Rok Simič got employed as an assistant in the field of Tribology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana. At the same time in 2009, he enrolled in graduate studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where, under the supervision of prof. dr. Mitjan Kalin, dealt with lubrication and adsorption of additives on diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings. In 2013 he defended his PhD thesis entitled Nanotribology of chemically and physically active additives on diamon-like carbon coatings. Since then, he continues researching lubrication of DLC coatings with emphasis on environmentally-friendly technologies and is involved in the development of new slip-rings for the usage in electrical contacts.
