Abstract

In fretting wear, the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the surface and subsurface lazer depend significantly on the temperature field produced in the fretting zone. Informations reported in the literature indicate contradicting values for the temperature produced et the interface. In the present study, the result of a succesive grinding technique used to examine the miocrostructure changes generated by fretting of a AISI 52100 steel were compared to the mathematically calculated contact temperatures generated in interface using Archard's model and equations developed in Centreof Tribology and Technical Diagnostics (CTD).
